"It is an Objective realist" (William Dean Howells)
The History of Realism
Realism was started in 1850s. It was branched off from Romanticism, romanticism is the general attempt to depict thing accurately from either a visual, social , or emotional perspective. Realism was also branched off Fauvism, is known as a french movement which used rich, powerful color applied boldly. Realism is the quality or fact of representing a person, thing, or situation accurately or in a way that is true to life. All three of these styles are connected because they are trying to depict there same general image. Realism was important in lots of ways. One reason was because it portrayed real people not just the rich and famous, for example poor people as shown in The Third Class Wagon. It was also important because it showed real thing that were happening even if they weren't always pleasant, for example workers that were actually working as shown in The Gleaners.
